August 29, 2016: What Does “Letting Go” Look Like?

I’m back from England and making space for change. What does it look like to “Let go and let God”? In practical terms, what is that? What are you ready to see transformed?

July 13, 2016: Conscious Emotion

Do your emotions control you or do you consciously respond to your emotions?

June 16, 2016: The Hive Heart

I’m talking about my painting process, the work I used to do and how to bring it into the present, and a free offering – a group prayer painting – for the Feast of Mary Magdalene in July.

I’m talking about a name for the studio, my Lenten discipline, and the new moon in Aquarius.

January 6, 2016: Plans for a New Studio Year

What I’m thinking, doing, dreaming, and planning for the studio this year.

June 17, 2015: Writing with deadlines, the fact that we’re midway through the year, and restlessness.

Fresh from my trip to Florida and a visit to an artists’ village, I’m thinking about the balance between listening to the flow and sticking to a structure when it comes to writing and art-making. Do you keep a list of current projects? Do you hold yourself to deadlines? How does that practice feed your creativity?

June 29, 2015: The women I paint. Who are they?

My paintings come from the lectionary, voices I hear in my head, urges in my heart. I paint “the divine feminine” – but what does that mean? Who are these women? I’m talking about using canvas and paint to connect to the divine feminine within myself and how everything we make is in one way or another, a self-portrait.

July 7, 2015: Self-care for artists and listening to the wild muse.

When uncomfortable energy and emotions show up, what do you do? When I paint, I don’t feel dis-ease. That’s why painting is part of my self-care practice, and that’s why I choose painting even when I have other things to do. The source of creativity is God, so when when we follow our impulses, we end up where we need to be.

July 23, 2015: Energy, where I’m writing these days, why I’m painting so much, and patience.

It can feel strange when our creative habits shift, but sometimes energy gets re-channeled. Sometimes you have to go with the flow and do what your muse is telling you and…trust.

July 30, 2015: The full moon in Aquarius on July 31, the state of things in the studio, and my solar plexus.

As women, our natural rhythms are connected to the natural rhythms of the earth. That’s part of the reason why I love contemplating the phase of the moon. All life is interconnected. It’s amazing how it all works together. We are each a part of something vast and mysterious.

August 10, 2015: Ruining paintings, regret, and following the path we can’t see.

Back from an end-of-summer trip to Chattanooga, I’m writing to a daily word count goal, getting jobs straightened out, and thinking about the metaphor in the fact that every painting I create goes through a passage of ruination.

August 25, 2015: Feeling stuck in relationships and what happens with you’re completely honest in your journal.

Do you hold back in your journal or pretty things up? Sometimes writing from your shadow – and being completely honest about what you desire – is just the thing you need to energize yourself and release old stagnant stuff.

September 21, 2015: When a failure is actually a success.

I’m not making the announcement I was hoping to make, but I’m still pleased with where I am. I’m also talking about comparisons and how making things in hopes that you’ll be loved or validated never works out.

October 12, 2015: What do you do when something is vexing you and you just feel stuck?

I’m sharing some of my strategies for stuckedness and what I do when things in the studio just aren’t moving the way I want them to.

October 23, 2015: Navigating Community

Are you a member of a creative community, like a writer’s group? How do you handle that situation? What do you do about difficult personalities? That’s what I’m talking about today.

November 21, 2015: Why I Stopped Practicing Reiki

I’m talking about why I stopped practicing Reiki and how you have to honor what’s true for you even when it doesn’t make a lot of sense to other people.
