The January Love List

Here we are at the end of January, the first month of 2024.

I set some daily goals for myself this month, and met them. I did a 45-minute indoor walk/workout every day and I wrote something every day. This feels good. There were other ideas I had for the month that didn’t come to pass, but that’s alright. I make adjustments as I fly.

My mom and I had tea with my nieces, before they went back to school. It was so lovely, and it seems like forever ago!

We had a week of super cold temperatures and several inches of snow (along with the rest of the country,) but the birds right now are singing about spring.

I’ve been enjoying a cup of earl grey every afternoon, simply for the pleasure of it, and I’m working slowly but surely on my massive de-cluttering project.

This month, I posted two Creative Living Diaries. The first is here and the second is here.

I also wrote two Midlife Magic posts, including this one about aliens. My Substack doesn’t have a narrow focus. I write about all sorts of things there, and it makes my heart leap every time someone subscribes, because whatever it is, I love writing it.

Here are some other things I loved in January.

Actual Stuff

Sometimes I buy things and they turn out to be meh, or even, complete duds. But sometimes I buy things that end up enhancing my life. I made a few of those purchases this month. (Disclosure: These are affiliate links.)

I started using a facial cleanser.

I’m using this at night.

I bought these coffee mugs because I thought they were pretty, and they are. I like how they look displayed in my kitchen and I’ve been using them for overnight oats. You should know, thought, that they’re hand wash only and you can’t pour boiling water into them.

Media Consumption

🎧 My Name is Barbra On New Year’s Eve, Andy Cohen mentioned that he was listening to Barbra Streisand’s memoir, and I knew, as a lifelong Streisand fan, I was going to make it my first read (listen) of 2024. I’m obsessed. It’s so good. I’m still listening because it’s long and detailed, but I recommend it.

🎬 Tracy and I watched The Holdovers and loved it.

📺 We also binged Mare of Easttown, which we came two a few years late, but better late than never. It’s so good.

📺 I started watching Vera and like it a lot although I have to give it focused attention or else I lose track of what they’re saying and their beautiful accents just start sounding like music.

🎬 We re-watched Party Girl, which I hadn’t seen since it came out, and it was a lot of fun. I sure do love indies from the 90s set in NYC!

So, that’s it for the first month of the year. You know I love February and I’m welcoming it in with lots of pink and red and little velvet hearts.

See you next month!

xoxo
